We were able to catchup with Wheeling Central standout and future wvu basketball commit Max Olejasz this evening. Some people not in state or not being able to make a state championship game don’t know what it means to be the last team standing in Charleston.

Max started playing basketball at the age of four. We asked him why basketball and he said,” it really wasn’t an option.” Coming from a basketball family and his mom who is the head coach of the girls basketball team at Wheeling Central, Max new his path at a young age.

We asked max what it meant to win it all and his response was,” the first one felt like a weight lifted and this year felt like it was expected.” Max helped lead Wheeling Central to another championship and a 23-0 record. Max helped lead them to back to back state championships. Winning one is hard enough, but winning them back to back is another story.

When asked about his recruitment Max told us that once the offer from WVU came in he pretty much stopped looking. Don’t think he was just a one sport athlete. This young man had a couple division one offers in football as well.

Just imagine what the process would look like being recruited at the highest level in both football and basketball. This young man has a bright future ahead in Morgantown.

Just like Max told us,” at a young age the goal was always WVU.” Every in state athlete dreams for playing for the home town team and Max gets to live out his dream. The hours and hours of hard work is paying off!
