Morning Session Review

Today starts the girls basketball state tournament and to kick off the morning session we had a fantastic game between number 3 Tug Valley and number 6 Tucker County. It was back and forth all game with Tucker holding to a four point lead at the break. Tucker outscored Tug Valley by four in the third which gave them an eight point lead headed into the fourth. Tug valley held Tucker to only 8 points in the final period. Tucker County found a way to close out the game and take game 1 of the day 46-45. Tucker County junior big Kadie Colebank had a huge game leading the way with 16 points and 25 rebounds. Tucker now is awaiting the winner of Cameron vs River View.
Another good one here in game 2 of the day. Frankfort took the lead at the end of the first 11-10. Petersburg defense showed up big in the second only allowing 5 points in the second period. Petersburg scoring is lead by Braylee Corbin with 7 at the break and a two point lead. Petersburg opened the second half on a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 31-18. The defensive pressure here in the third for Petersburg has intensified. Petersburg never let Frankfort get back within 6. Petersburg held off Frankfort 47-41. Petersburg scoring was lead by Braylee Corbin with 13 and Kennedy Kaposy and Mackenzie Kitzmiller both added 9 points. Frankfort was lead by Halley Smith with 12, Arin Lease with 11 and Tinsley Grove with 10.
This one was all Cameron from the tip. Ashlynn Van Tassell has been a force with 22 points and 21 rebounds in the first half. Cameron lead at the half 42-18. It was more Cameron in the second half. Outscoring River View 21-11 in the third. Cameron cruised to an easy quarterfinal win by a score of 74-43. Ashlynn Van Tassell lead the way with 29 points and 31 rebounds for the lady dragons. River View leading scorer was Haylie Payne with 16. Cameron will now host the #6 seed Tucker County lady lions.
